It appears that your opinion is based on a strange, roundabout
interpretation of the joke. The joke is about a real censorship
policy, and makes humor by transposing it to the mention of a standard
C function.
I don't believe that many readers will interpret the joke in that
roundabout way, so the problem you are concerned with does not really
exist.
Thus, I stand by my decision to keep the joke.
