'border' types and unit fills

1) I would like to make borders appear on the map, but with dashed-lines, so
one could
see the underlying terrain.  I don't see an obvious way to do this; any
suggestions?

2) I would like to fill units with the appropriate color for their side
    (blue for Union, grey for Confederates).

I can see that I can declare colors for each side, but no way to use them in
coloring the units (at least
that I can spot).  Any pointers?
