That's interesting.

It puzzles me however because I emphasise that I often get many thousands of
lines of output from these probes (all seemingly valid) before the crash
happens. 

If the syptom is caused by a gcc error, should I expect the symptom to be less
random?  

Separately, assuming the .so concerned is the PHP library that I built, i
wonder if there are any relevant compilation flags you would suggest that I
might use to influence the behaviour?
