arm-newlib problem

Hi, I'm building newlib-1.8.1 for a cross compiling tool chain from
i586-linux to arm-linux. configured as --host=i586-unknown-linux
--target=arm-unknown-linuxaout.
After build getting unknown references __end__, _bss_start_ and
_bss_end_ from crt0.o and syscalls.c. Any ideas why this is
happening. Also I'm building for a SA1100 arm architecture, might that
be the cause? Thanks.
