Audit messages in Glibc

Hi,
I have the following use case: there is a runtime check that, if
enabled, would abort the process if check fails. Sometimes it might be
useful to do the check but avoid aborting the process and instead print
a warning message somehow to allow for audit of such warning messages.
Is there some existing provision for such warning messages in Glibc
already. It seems like just fprintf (stderr, ...) might not be the best
way to do it?
Thanks,
Yury
