GDB 4.18 doesn't build on FreeBSD 4.1 so I'm not sure what you're
running.  At a guess it would be a patched GDB snapshot based on 4.18. 
I'd suggest downloading a recent GDB snapshot.  See:
http://sources.redhat.com/gdb/#download .
