Export autoload functionality?

A really "off the wall" idea I know, but would it be possible or
desireable to export the autoload functionality?  I'd sure like to use it
in a Cygwin app.

I'm still studying the code, but I thought I'd ask for "quick, off the
cuff" feedback before wasting too much time on it.  A simple:

1.) Impossible
2.) Bad idea
3.) That might work
4.) Cool, give it a try

style response is all that I'm hoping for.

I tried googling the archives to see if this has been discussed before,
but didn't have much luck.  Hopefully this question won't waste too much
of anyone's time.  Thanks.
