Sorry, now it's me that's confused: emulations is there
"already"; the abbreviation of that option is what you
tweak.  Nothing is "introduced".

Let's start over; I'll rephrase:

Speaking of emulations, if Someone thinks that gas
emulations is too much of a maintenance burden, then I don't
oppose removing it, provided that NOP compatibility options
are kept, like --emulation=crisaout for cris-aout and
--emulation=criself for CRIS ELF targets.
