gas on Solaris 2.5.1

The Sun as on our SunOS-5.5.1 box
is as-4.2.  As such it does not handle
long symbol names with gcc-2.95.2.

I would like to use gnu as, but I see
that there are problems with binutils-2.9.1
on a sparc-sun-solaris* platform.

Is there a newer version of binutils
that I can use?
