No. You didn't. No weasel wording gets you out of this.

You can believe what you wish, but you've been told you did not follow the
rules for the community. Told by multiple people. It's really quite clear,
you just need to be transparent about what you're going to do, post a patch
about the reversal, and allow people to review it.

That's OK. You don't have to. You're a GNU package maintainer.
