Dear Sirs, ;-) I am trying to build a compiler as stated. I am using gcc 4.0 sources. I am using gcc 3.3.3 as build-compiler. I managed to build binutils without problems. This is part of my environment: PREFIX=/usr/local/lynx PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=x86 PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER=x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6, GenuineIntel PROCESSOR_LEVEL=6 PROCESSOR_REVISION=0806 TARGET=ppc-lynx-lynx For gcc I did this: Copied headers and libs from target to /usr/local/lynx/sysroot/usr... Ran configure: $ ../gcc-4.0-20050220/configure --target=${TARGET} --prefix=${PREFIX} --enable-threads=gnat --with-local-prefix=${PREFIX}/${TARGET} --enable-languages=c,ada --with-sysroot=${PREFIX}/sysroot --with-gnu-as --with-gnu-ld --disable-multilib No problems, but java, fortran and libstd3++ is unsupported on target. The I ran make (No parameters) This resulted in: Checking multilib configuration... /bin/sh ../gcc-4.0-20050220/mkinstalldirs ppc-lynx-lynx/libiberty ; \ rm -f ppc-lynx-lynx/libiberty/Makefile || : ; \ cp multilib.out ppc-lynx-lynx/libiberty/multilib.out mkdir -p -- ppc-lynx-lynx/libiberty Configuring in ppc-lynx-lynx/libiberty configure: creating cache ./config.cache checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no checking for makeinfo... makeinfo checking for perl... perl checking build system type... i686-pc-cygwin checking host system type... powerpc-lynx-lynxos checking for ppc-lynx-lynx-ar... ppc-lynx-lynx-ar checking for ppc-lynx-lynx-ranlib... ppc-lynx-lynx-ranlib checking for ppc-lynx-lynx-gcc... /home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/xgcc -B/home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/bin/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/lib/ -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/include -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/sys-include checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether /home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/xgcc -B/home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/bin/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/lib/ -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/include -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/sys-include accepts -g... yes checking for /home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/xgcc -B/home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/bin/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/lib/ -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/include -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/sys-include option to accept ANSI C... none needed checking how to run the C preprocessor... /home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/xgcc -B/home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/bin/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/lib/ -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/include -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/sys-include -E checking whether /home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/xgcc -B/home/elh/Gcc/lynx/gcc/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/bin/ -B/usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/lib/ -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/include -isystem /usr/local/lynx/ppc-lynx-lynx/sys-include and cc understand -c and -o together... yes checking for an ANSI C-conforming const... yes checking for inline... inline checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... cross-compiling... unknown checking to probe for byte ordering... big endian probe OK, guessing bigendian ... yes checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking for sys/file.h... yes checking for sys/param.h... no checking for limits.h... yes checking for stdlib.h... yes checking for malloc.h... yes checking for string.h... yes checking for unistd.h... yes checking for strings.h... yes checking for sys/time.h... yes checking for time.h... yes checking for sys/resource.h... no checking for sys/stat.h... yes checking for sys/mman.h... yes checking for fcntl.h... yes checking for alloca.h... yes checking for sys/pstat.h... no checking for sys/sysmp.h... no checking for sys/sysinfo.h... no checking for machine/hal_sysinfo.h... no checking for sys/table.h... no checking for sys/sysctl.h... yes checking for sys/systemcfg.h... no checking for stdint.h... yes checking for sys/wait.h that is POSIX.1 compatible... yes checking whether time.h and sys/time.h may both be included... yes checking whether errno must be declared... no checking for egrep... grep -E checking for ANSI C header files... yes checking for sys/types.h... yes checking for sys/stat.h...
