Description Quentin PAGÈS 2020-03-06 11:50:13 UTC
Hello,
in Occitan the name of «Thursday» is not written correctly.
Indeed, it should be «dijòus» and not «dijóus».
It means replacing "dij<U00F3>us" by "dij<U00F2>us".

I hope it can be change easily and to backport to glibc 2.31.

Thank you, Quentin. I can see one more misspelled weekday name, according to CLDR:

"dimars" -> should be: "dimarç"

Also a month name:

"abrial" -> should be: "abril"

Please confirm or deny.
Comment 2 Quentin PAGÈS 2020-03-07 00:26:31 UTC
April has two forms, both are okay.
https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/abril#oc

Dimarç is wrong, it's even sometimes spelt like in Catalan «dimarts» but the correct Occitan is «dimars», it might have been standardised thus some old dictionaries give a dated spelling.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dimars and https://locongres.org/oc/aplicacions/dicodoc-oc/dicodoc-recerca?option=com_dicodoc&view=search&Itemid=168&type=fr-oc&dic%5B%5D=BASIC&dic%5B%5D=RBVD&dic%5B%5D=ALPC&dic%5B%5D=ATAU&dic%5B%5D=PROV&dic%5B%5D=PNST&dic%5B%5D=OMLH&dic%5B%5D=LAUS&dic%5B%5D=LAGA&dic%5B%5D=LEMO&q=mardi&q2=&submit=Cercar

To finish, July has two forms too... julh and julhet
It may be a good idea to use «julh» for the short form of the month instead of «jul.»
https://locongres.org/oc/aplicacions/dicodoc-oc/dicodoc-recerca?option=com_dicodoc&view=search&Itemid=168&type=fr-oc&dic%5B%5D=BASIC&dic%5B%5D=RBVD&dic%5B%5D=ALPC&dic%5B%5D=ATAU&dic%5B%5D=PROV&dic%5B%5D=PNST&dic%5B%5D=OMLH&dic%5B%5D=LAUS&dic%5B%5D=LAGA&dic%5B%5D=LEMO&q=juillet&q2=&submit=Cercar

If you have any more question do not hesitate, I would be glad to answer.

I've posted a patch here: [1] As I said, it is not meant to be complete. I understand there are some obvious typos which must be fixed ASAP.

It looks to me like "abril" is preferred while "abrial" being an alternative spelling. What do you think?

Can you please report it to CLDR?

I have added your suggestion to the patch although I hesitate. From your sources again it looks to me like "julhet" is the preferred form. Consequently, "jul." or "julh." (with a trailing dot) should be an abbreviated form of "julhet" since all other abbreviated forms hare a trailing dot. The abbreviation "julh" (without a dot) would look good to me only if "julh" was a full form (a case when the full form is so short that we don't need to abbreviate it at all).

Again, I can't speak Occitan, this is just my guessing and I leave the final decision to the experts.

Yes your reasoning is good to keep jul.
About abril/abrial, well in standard it's the same, I think Abril is more used than Abrial. I don't have a preference nor an advice on it.
Many thanks for your work!

Now as Thursday (dijòus) and April (abril) are fixed and you have agreed not to change "jul." to "julh", can we consider this bug as fixed?
