We would like to do some linguistic work on ancient Greek. It is written using polytonic characters and in reality it's a very different language than modern greek (el_GR). We thought that having a separate locale was necessary and since there already was an ISO-639 standard (grc) we set out to write the actual locale. It's based on el_GR (only some names are different, not necessary to change anything, it's about ancient Greek not ancient Greece anyway :-) Konstantinos

I concur the addition of the Ancient Greek (katharevousa) locale. Apart from linguists (University departments/Classics) that may be interested for localised desktop, the Greek Orthodox clergy and monasteries actively use Ancient Greek for their documents.
Various fields like d_t_fmt are not using the <Uxxxx> format.
