With commit f916107c2, I can no longer reproduce this.
I believe a factor unique to my test machine was its
use of netconsole + serial-console, which may have
caused extra disruption with the debugging printk's
included in my modifications to kenistoj's original
patch, and preserved by srikar.  After those printk's
were removed, the tests have been solid.
