I was talking to a NCSU faculty member earlier this week about some of the systemtap instrumentation. He mentioned Kernel Mode Linux: http://web.yl.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~tosh/kml/ I haven't taken a close look at it, but it might have some alternative ways of addressing some of the safety issues. -Will
