Message-ID: So, is sourcenav on the FTP site? I don't see it there. ------- Start of forwarded message ------- From: CLP026@europe30.mot.com (Pedersen Lars-CLP026) Newsgroups: cygnus.project.sourcemaster Subject: Source Navigator in Open Source? Date: 15 May 2000 05:19:15 -0700 Organization: Cygnus Solutions news/mail gateway Message-ID: <2FA67807F003D4118801009027E5BCFA1079A7.cygnus.project.sourcemaster@zdk02exm02.cphse100.comm.mot.com> To: "'sourcemaster@cygnus.com'" As I can see that you are begging for suggestions for your excellent site I will make the effort to rephrase my question to a suggestion :-) I read on you web page for Source-Navigator that it is now Open Source. There is even an ftp directory and links to mirrors listed for download sites. Thats really good news. I have tried the tool and really love it. My former employer however thought it was too expensive so I have only used it for "fun". I have tried to download the software but neither the local link nor the mirrors have any content in the ftp area. My suggestion is therefore to make the software available.... Now my original question is that I have tried to find and download the Source-Navigator but have not been successful in my attempts. I'm behind a firewall at work, so maybe that's it, but what puzzles me is that I can access the ftp directory but there is no content, neither at your site nor in the mirrors. Some of them have also noticed that it isn't up for download yet (I hate it when people are that perceptive ;-)). Here's the status report as I understand it: * We are expecting to release it just as soon as we can. Therefore, frills like having an RPM package as well as sources might have to wait until after the initial release. * It is hard to say when, or be sure that it will be soon. When taking a project from closed to open there are various issues to be dealt with, and some of them go on "lawyer time" instead of "internet time", unfortunately. If you want to be kept informed, please join the sourcenav and/or sourcenav-announce mailing lists. The former can also be used for discussions (anyone want to put up a betting pool about when the release will be ;-))? Details at http://sourceware.cygnus.com/lists.html . These patches are in directories that are shared by Insight and Source-Navigator, which is due to be released as open source Real Soon Now. The patches do the following: - Fix some shared macros for locating incrTcl components in the build tree to work with incr Tcl 3.0 (config/acinclude.m4, itcl configury, libgui configury) - Add an export from Tcl to find the Tcl build directory (tcl/*/configure.in, tcl/unix/tclConfig.sh.in, libgui/Makefile.am) - Fix some problems in the Source-Navigator-only files in libgui. The widgets that these files implement are not really independent of Source-Navigator and should not have been moved to libgui until they were. However, they are here now, and have some patches (libgui/tree.tcl, libgui/tkGraphCanvas.c) I will post a separate patch for each directory; however, they need to be applied at the same time.
