I don't think it was too obvious, giving that a download in progress will
usually update the file date at the end (as far as I know) which would re-
trigger md5.sum generation.

As far as I can tell, the problem really only happens with cp -p/scp -p
or similiar, which is not really that obvious IMnsHO.
