sources.redhat.com/gcc.gnu.org was down from 5PM EST Sunday until about
9:50EST Monday.

I noticed some apparent crude breakin attempts in the system logs and
was playing with the firewall.  I thought I could always access the
system on the internal network if something screwed up but, I was wrong.
I screwed something up and the system went dead.

This was compounded by a severe ice storm in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
so sysadmin staff couldn't make it in to fix things.

I've taken steps to make sure that this won't happen again when I change
the firewall and I'm going to pursue other means for accessing the system
in the future.
