BTW, I see sourceware is running a relatively old version of dump.
Such old versions are known to generate dump images that just can't be
restored, especially when backing up active disks.  If this backup is
to be useful at all, I strongly suggest getting at least 0.4b19
(update for Red Hat Linux 5.x and 6.x available at
updates.redhat.com), and starting over.  Or doing the backup with GNU
tar.
