Patches to reduce stack consumption of qsort

Greetings,

I would like to submit a pair of patches to the qsort function, both intended to reduce the stack consumption. The patches are functionally separate, but the second one builds on the changes in the first one.

I'm not experienced using GIT, or sending patches via email, so please inform me if there is something I should do differently. I'll try one patch per email, as attachments...
