Sorry, I still haven't had a chance to look into this, other more 
important issues have tied the resources I have available for RTEMS 
resources and are still tying them.

I'll likely not be able to revisit this issue before gcc-4.6.0 is out (+ 
ca. 1. week)

Besides this, newlib-issues are independent of the version of GCC.
