make problem with newlib

Dear all,

I'm trying to port newlib to a new platform. I did all the steps. I
configure in a different directory than newlib, and when I make, it's not
successful, I see this error message:----

The following command caused the error:
r=`${PWDCMD-pwd}`; export r; \

Any hint how I may solve this?
