newlib for target ip2k

Hello,
I hope this is the right discussion list for my question...
I have tested to make newlib for the target ip2k with the following
commands:
$ ../newlib/configure --target=ip2k-elf
--prefix=/opt/crosstools/ip2k/ip2k-elf   2>&1 | tee configure.log
$ make all install 2>&1 | tee make.log

After calling make I receive allways the following message:
*** Newlib does not support CPU ip2k
make: *** [configure-target-newlib] Error 1

I have tested this with the newest version from cvs and also with
newlib-1.12.0 and newlib-1.11.0. The strange thing is that in the changelog
file I have found the note from 2002-07-01  "Add support for ip2k".
Have anyone an idea if Newlib not supports this CPU or if I make something
wrong?
