Newlib reentrancy, _impure_ptr_ and small data optimization

I would like to bring your attention to the following news article:

more precisely to the topic:
    PowerPC-sysV/eabi, harmonization of section attribute and small data
optimization

This issue might have an impact on the newlib reentrancy feature (small
data ). My humble opinion is that the impact should be positive
(effective small data optimizations in a larger set of compiler options,
e.g. -msdata=eabi -G 0). But you are perhaps in a better position to
decide.

The only intent of this message is to give you the opportunity to
comment the above patch suggestion in a timely manner.
