I try to be helpful, but i'm too short on time.  8-S

I'll look through when i get a chance.

One other thing I did notice is that the version of the berkeley
license in COPYING.NEWLIB is different than the berkeley license on at
least some of the sources.  (e.g. those in search.)  Since they are
different licenses, probably best to include both in COPYING.NEWLIB,
or make sure that one can be used consistently and then use it.
