The manpages for any version of Linux libc are _not_ the official
documentation.  The official glibc documentation is the Info files;
the glibc team don't have anything to do with the manual pages.  The
manual pages are often out-of-date or just plain wrong, as in this
case.  Please don't use them for anything.
