[Patch] libstdc++/26181

Hi,

the below fixes the problem in a reasonally clean why, in my opinion,
considering the binary compatibility requirements.

Working on it, unconvered a *very* long standind, lower severity, issue
with basic_istream::tellg, seekg failing to construct a sentry, which I
filed separately as 26211.

Tested x86-linux.
