Replace fork with try_fork in testsuite?

Yes, it's weird, but I think harmless.  Benjamin said it was OK to have 
testsuite-only messages in the translation files that ship, so I think 
it should also be OK to have some testsuite-only macros in the 
c++config.h that ships.
