Untested testcases?!?

Hi all,

a few days ago, while backporting the fix for 5181/3272 to 3.0.4, I happened to
notice again something that had already puzzled me before: in the current
testsuite many testcases - in the usual form of functions named testXX - are
*not* called from the main.

Is this intended? Why? Are perhaps those tests obsolete, thus not worth testing
today? Should then be removed? Or, on the contrary, this is a sort of temporary
XFAIL??

Just a couple of examples: test03 in ostream_inserter_arith.cc, test04 in
ostream_inserter_other.cc. In case, I can provide a complete list.
