You've seen the message, I'm finally satisfied with the status and
made 2.2.1pre1 available.  The iconv modules kept me busy today (they
were really badly broken).  I tested the release on various x86
machines and PPC.


The announcement also mentioned the problems I have with patch
generation.  If anybody has a solution for it I'd like to know about
it.  I think about writing a post-processing script for patches which
recognize lines like

  Binary files glibc-2.2.1/iconvdata/testdata/IBM930 and glibc-2.2/iconvdata/testdata/IBM930 differ

and creates a piece of shell script which contains the new file
contents uuencoded and compressed.
