That's not what is used.  gethostname() is a syscall.  And yes, the
code didn't fail but this is surprising.  The first problem I saw was
on Saturday on Alpha.  This is when I asked Andreas to look at it.

The test-netdb code is clearly wrong, regardless of what the sysv
implementation of gethostname does.
