GMP 3.1.1

Uli,

we use in glibc an old version of GMP.  The latest released version of
GMP is 3.1.1.  Is there any special reason why we didn't synch with
that version?

I'm volunteering to look what needs to be done for a synch and if it's
usefull but first like to hear some comments if others tried or looked
into this already.
