second test release

I think it's time for the second test release.  I envision Wednesday
which gives at least one more full day for everybody to come up with a
reason why I shouldn't do it.  If I don't get a RPC patch by tomorrow
(Tuesday evening, my time) I'll apply Jakub's patch to remove the
whole stuff.
