We've got two options: Build it only for Linux - or don't build it on
Hurd.  Since (quoting another email from you) "It's just the Hurd that
wants to be different :-)." what's the right way to go?

Btw. anybody with a hint how to do this?  Setting a make variable
that's disabled/enabled for Hurd/Linux?
