memory handling cleanup

If you read the ChangeLogs you'll see that I worked today on fixing
memory leaks.  Actually, there was only one leak, the rest were
internal data structures which have to be freed if you use mtrace.
This now should be all fixed.  Maybe you can give it a try with your
own programs by adding mtrace support to them.
