A miscompiled glibc 2.1?

Hi,

It seems that either there is a bug in glibc 2.1 981118 or
I somehow corrupted it. If a file, foo, dosn't exist, I got

# ls -l foo
ls: foo: <@#_r
              ÷ÿ¿

Does anyone see it? I am running RedHat 5.1.

Thanks.
