changes

Hi,

I've checked in the changes I got over the weekend plus the bit of
work I've done.  I've extended fnmatch (now supports character
classes) and made glob run faster which was reported to be very slow
before.  Please test these functions as much as possible.  The tests
we have currently certainly are not sufficent.
