an interesting statistic

I compiled libc from scratch under kernels 2.0.34 and 2.1.113, both
times on an otherwise completely idle machine (nothing else running
but syslogd)... and it took essentially the same time.

(2.0.34) 1:48:57 - usr 4537.18 sys 887.31, 82% cpu page: 5088460/3157646
(2.1.113) 1:45:43 - usr 4523.30 sys 597.14, 80% cpu page: 5121573/3155291

This is probably because my machine has a very slow disk, so hardware
bottlenecks dominate.
