Hello everyone,

as of now we're in the freeze period for the upcoming glibc-2.44 release.

4 July 2026: Freeze
    Machine testing
    Bug fixes without large impact
No ABI changes without RM discussion
High risk bug fixes should be discussed on the list.

18 July 2026: Hard freeze
Only critically important or technically straightforward bug fixes
Release can happen when things are ready

1 Aug 2026 (or ideally a bit earlier): Release

Power on your testing rigs for machine testing, and post the results on the
wiki! :)

Note that a few blockers and desirables are still work in progress, see
https://sourceware.org/glibc/wiki/Release/2.44#Planning

1. Release blockers
posix: Fix wordexp WRDE_APPEND to preserve state on non-NOSPACE errors (BZ 34090, CVE-2026-6368)
    tunables overridability
2. Desirable this release
    linux: Do not spawn a new thread for SIGEV_THREAD (BZ 30558, 27895, 29705, 32833)
elf: Remove dead l_need_tls_init static-TLS init path
linux: Inline syscall cancellation to keep wrapper frames observable
Fixes for the system-wide tunables support (builds on "tunables overridability")

Cheers,
Andreas
