Thanks, I see it has already been committed to newlib. So I'll post
the GLIBC patch soon.

There are probably some further tweaks possible, eg. using wider
accesses and using unaligned accesses in the < 8 byte case, but
that requires a bit more work, so not for this GLIBC release...
