Thanks for looking into this. I applied your patch on top of a
revised version of my "tlsdesc" patch for powerpc,
https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2010-02/msg00025.html minus the
elf/dlopen.c bits. My patch alone regresses elf/tst-tls7,
elf/tst-tls8 and nptl/tst-stack4 on powerpc-linux and powerpc64-linux.
With your patch added the first two regressions disappear.
nptl/tst-stack4 fails with segfaults with or without your patch. :-(
As does nptl/tst-stack4 on x86_64 if tst-stack4mod.so is built with
-mtls-dialect=gnu2.
