I did read the wiki before I asked, at least FAQ, Contribution
checklist, Committer checklist, GlibcGit and MAINTAINERS.  The
only vaguely relevant thing I found was in MAINTAINERS:

  "If someone (covered by a copyright assignment) is doing good
  work, established developers may approve them for commit access
  (through mail to overseers@sourceware.org..."

I assumed that meant someone other than me should send the mail,
but no worries, I can send it.
