Could you please put this on the wiki?  We want a page with both:

* a description of how the errno code works;

* consequent on this, information on how to go about adding an errno value 
to glibc.  Such information will be useful every time a new errno number 
is added to the Linux kernel.

Having studied the matter, does your review conclude Andreas's patch to be 
correct and so appropriate to go in now?
