glibc 2.4 release imminent

This is indeed a known kernel issue, IIRC affecting only SMP machines.
There are various kernel bugs that may affect some of the nptl and rt
tests, often in timing-sensitive ways.  I think all known ones are fixed in
the current Linus kernel (will be 2.6.16).
