I assume you mean Sripathi Kodi when you write Petter R. above.

Improving the message is probably a good idea, yes.  Perhaps something
like this is better:

  *** free(): Called with invalid pointer 0xb7f9fb78 ***

It could make it more obvious that the problem is the argument to
free() and thus not related to glibc at all.
