String Functions for x86-64

We'd like to submit these functions for x86-64.  They perform better
than the current ones almost all the time on existing x86-64 processors,
as can be seen using the test programs with "make check".  More data is
being collected and will be posted in a couple of days or so.

These routines have been used in Linux distributions for a few years
though.

I'd appreciate if a preliminary review were done and any feedback is
welcome.
