I've noticed that many Linux distros these days can create device
files for devices with minor numbers greater than 255. That's even
though the mknod in glibc-2.3.2 doesn't support minor numbers greater
than 8 bits in size.
I noticed that the source RPM for the glibc in RHEL 3.0 has
glibc-2.3.2-200309260658, which includes support for the bigger minor
device numbers. Are those changes eventually going into the glibc
distributed on the GNU mirrors?
