ldd for foreign architectures

Is ldd compatible with foreign architectures?

I'm building for a foreign architecture (specifically building for 
powerpc on i386). Running ldd on foreign binaries reports that they are 
not dynamic executables; running ldd on the same binary for the host 
architecture reports their library dependancies. Can I build an ldd 
compatible with foreign binaries, for my host architecture?
