Are you sure? Jeff Garzik told me "there was kernel patch applied in 2.5 
that checks for CMOV, and reports i586 if it is not present". I also 
made a similar patch for our 2.4 kernels and it works so far.

My opinion is that gcc definition primarily models an i686, an Intel 
PentiumPro, thus with CMOV support. ;-)
