Ok, I tried on my AlphaPC-164LX.  There is one failure:
alpha_chris$ grep '\*\*' check.log
make[2]: *** [/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/glibc-build-alpha/elf/reldep6.out] Error 139make[1]: *** [elf/tests] Error 2
make: *** [check] Error 2

The file /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/glibc-build-alpha/elf/reldep6.out is empty.

alpha_chris$ gcc -v
